Dear friends, if God loved us this way, we also ought to love each other. No one has ever seen God. If we love each other, God remains in us and his love is made perfect in us.” 1 John 4:11-12 CEB
“Show, don’t tell!”
If there were ten commandments for writers, this rule would be number one on the list. As a writer I have a tendency to want to get the facts of an event down on paper. But on paper, the event is flat and almost lifeless, not like the 3-D of sensory experience.
If I add a photo, a few well-chosen descriptive words, some action verbs and some dialog to the story, it captures the reader’s interest and puts their imagination to work. My readers need to be able to see, smell, touch and hear the people and events I write about.
We can’t see God directly, but He becomes real to us through the events, the answered prayers, the coincidences (or everyday miracles!) and through the people who cross our paths Through the LOVE we show each other.
Love in action clearly illustrates our heavenly Father and invites interaction with Him.
Lord, help me show your love to others and not just tell them about it! Amen.
