“God made great and marvelous promises, so that his nature would become part of us. Then we could escape our evil desires and the corrupt influences of this world.” 2 Peter 1:4 CEV
“You are what you eat.” Or so the great weight loss gurus tell us.
They tout the virtues of whole grains, lean meat and fish, eating lots of fresh fruits and veggies, and of course, exercise. If we do these things, the experts promise us that we can reduce the chances of developing serious diseases, living more healthy, productive lives.
And they’re right. But the key here is that WE have to make the lifestyle changes. Just knowing what to do won’t help! If we don’t act on the knowledge we possess, our dreams of getting into those skinny jeans for the high school reunion will evaporate into thin air.
Likewise, God gives us a whole Bible full of promises to help us live a healthy and abundant Christian life. Bottom line: until we embrace those promises and choose to allow then to become part of the fabric of our lives, we’re still susceptible to the influences of the world around us.
Living a successful Christian life is a partnership between ourselves and God. As we choose to walk closer with Him, His nature becomes stronger in us so we can make healthier spiritual choices and draw even closer to Him.
Sure, we may make mistakes. bit that’s the beauty of Christ. He promises to forgive us and help us get back on track again if we choose to let Him.
Lord, thank you for your promises. Help me to lean on them and walk closer to you today! Amen.
