Producing Life’s Sweetest Fruit

“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!”        Galatians 5:22-23 NLT

Our thermometer registered 75° yesterday. This tied the record high temperature of 75° for our area for March 18 set in Erie PA in 1894!

Like many around our area, the warm temperatures tempt me to get out and begin planting my garden. But I know we won’t be past the danger of a killer frost until at least mid-May s0 tender plants such as tomatoes shouldn’t be planted outside just yet. If I want a good harvest from my garden, I must pay attention to the natural laws that govern the way I plant, the seasons for planting and the methods of cultivating each type of crop.

But the Holy Spirit isn’t bound by the laws of nature  as He plants and cultivates spiritual fruit in our lives. He doesn’t have to wait for the fertile soil of our hearts to reach a certain temperature or to watch the weather conditions and seasons to ensure a maximum harvest. As a matter of fact, He seems to work just the opposite of the natural laws to bring out the best in us.

Have you ever noticed that the harshest conditions like trials and sorrows bring out the sweetest, most bountiful spiritual fruit in our lives? Our libraries are filled with biographies of people who endured and overcame hardships to become the best and brightest stars of history against all odds.

Lord, thank you for being extra close and careful as you work to bring out the best in my life through the most adverse conditions. Amen.
