Down the lazy river

“But blessed are those who trust in the LORD and have made the LORD their hope and confidence.  They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.”        Jeremiah 17:7-8 NLT

Whenever I drive to visit my youngest daughter, there’s a spot just about at the halfway point where I love to stop for just a few moments to pray and drink in God’s peaceful presence. It’s not a fast food restaurant or a convenience market with restroom facilities, though I stop at those places too.

Nope! It’s a low spot where the road meanders through the hills, next to a well-manicured riverbank.  I think it is a swimming and tubing area for the Bible campground across the road because a small wooden stairway leads directly to the water’s edge just a few feet from the road. But  there are rarely people around and it always seems so peaceful – a perfect place to begin a dreamy journey down the river in an inner tube on a lazy summer day.

No matter what the weather is like, the grass is always lush and green. The trees seem to blossom more quickly there in the spring than they do at other places around here and they stay greener longer, no matter how dry the summer becomes – all because of the river.

Thank you Lord for a beautiful visual reminder of the strength, peace and endurance I can have when I place my trust in you! Amen.
