Making my life count…

“He carried in his own body on the cross the sins we committed. He did this so that we might live in righteousness, having nothing to do with sin. By his wounds you were healed.”        1 Peter 2:24 CEB

A pastor and counselor we know shared the story of how his mother died giving birth to him.  For years as he grew from a small child to a wayward teenager, he struggled with guilt and anguish in his soul, blaming himself for  his mother’s death.

One year, on the anniversary of her death, he visited her grave, flinging himself down on it and wept. When all the tears were gone, he sensed God speaking to his heart. “Your mother gave her life giving birth to you. Now it’s up to you to make her sacrifice count.”

Those words deeply affected his life, becoming a tangible example of Christ’s sacrifice for him.  He got up from the grave site and went on to enter the ministry. Later, he returned to school to study psychology. Now he not only heals the emotional wounds of the hurting using Biblical principles, he teaches others to be healers as well.

Lord, you died to give birth to a healthy new heart and life within me. Help my life to count for you! Amen.
